"Everybody Hates Malvo" - October 30th, 2006
Chris is stoked when he is trusted to watch Doc's register, but things go wrong when he gets robbed by the neighborhood's notorious criminanl "Malvo". Watch Episode Trailer
Moved to a brand new neighborhood and school, Chris fights to find his place at school and home. Chris has his first encounter with school bully "Joey". Chris also makes a new friend "Greg". Julius, Chris' dad questions his wife Rochelle on how she handles the family's finances.
Chris' mom hires the "girl nextdoor" Keisha to help him with math. Chris is thinking less about math, than how to impress her. Unfortunately Keisha has a few moves of her own that startle Chris. Greg uses Chris to protect him from bullies.
Chris is recruited to play on the school basketball team because everyone thinks "he's black, he must be good". Unfortunately for Chris, he is horrible. Chris' new status makes him one of the most popular kids around, which upsets his 'real' friend Greg. To bring in some extra cash, Chris' parents sublet their upstairs room to a suspicious man.
Chris gets into a battle with the school's resident bully "Joey". Chris' mother quits her job so money gets a little tight, prompting Julius to shop for deals. He ends up buying an army's supply of sausage because it is such a steal. Drew starts karate.
Chris is able to get a respite from local thugery by befriending a neighborhood kid named "Fat Mike". But their relationship takes a turn for the worse when Fat Mike steals Chris' bike. Julius, a union working, goes on strike and so Chris' mom must go out and get a job to support the family. Rochelle is threatened by how much better Julius is at homemaking than she is.
It's Halloween and Chris is stoked. The girl next door, Lisa, is having a party, but Chris has to take his brother and sister trick-or-treating. At school, Chris and Greg fight off the school bullies as they hurl rotten eggs around school. Julius tries to hand out generic candy.
Chris' parents go out on a date which means a babysitter is needed. But when the babysitter keeps leaving to do other things, Chris has to cover for her. Rochelle and Julius' date doesn't quite work out to plan when the restaurant gets robbed.
The rock family's tv is on the blink so Rochelle talks Julius into breaking down and going to buy a new color television. Unfortunately for Chris that means he has to do the family chore of laundry at the local laundromat. His mother's only words were "do not mix whites and colors". But as Chris gets tired over the competition for machines he falls asleep. He wakes up to his Tonya drinking a soda with the laundry money and so Chris, sort of change, is forced to wash the colors and whites together. Of course the clothes are ruined but Drew charms his way to a funny solution.
Julius happens upon $200 in food stamps but Rochelle is much too embarrassed to use them. Rochelle breaks down and goes shopping with the foodstamps. She goes all out purchasing name brands and things she normally doesn't. But once she gets to the checkout line she sees a friend and is instantly mortified. She dips into the family's savings account to pay for the food instead of using the food stamps. Chris and Greg work on a science project but end up fighting over the best idea.
Chris, sick of getting blamed for Tonya's troublemaking, decides to spend more time at Greg's. But unfortunately he didn't have permission to do so, which leads to trouble. Meanwhile Tonya is having trouble as she is getting blamed for things in Chris' absence.
The hot water heater breaks at the Rock home and this prompts Chris' parents to tell him that they can't afford to buy the walkman he wanted for Christmas. Meanwhile Drew tells Tonya that there is no Santa Claus which prompts here to question other things her parents have told her.
Chris thinks if he gets a leather jacket he will automatically be cool. So he goes to work for Julius to earn some extra cash. Unfortunately the work isn't quite as easy as he thought. Meanwhile Drew dares Tonya to drink a bottle of hot sauce...this ends badly.
Chris goes through a lot to put together the perfect picture day outfit. His hopes are that this "perfect" style will win over the cool kids. Meanwhile Rochelle starts to sell cosmetics from home to earn some extra cash.
Chris' reign as king of "Asteroid Champion" is threatened and Julius and Rochelle have to give up one of their greatest guilty pleasures in order to cut household costs.
Chris gets an "F" in math but changes the letter on his report card before giving it to his parents. Meanwhile Julius "recovers" from "gout" by watching daytime television.
